AMUZUKWU COMMUNITY IN IBEKU, UMUAHIA NORTH ENDORSES AKOBUNDU, SAYS NO OTHER CANDIDATE IS ACCEPTABLE TO THEM
In what appears to be a tsunami and oncoming landslide victory for the PDP Candidate for Abia Central Senatorial district in the 2023 elections, Col Austin Akobundu rtd, the elders and people of Amuzukwu Ibeku in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State have unanimously endorsed him for the Abia Central Senatorial seat come 2023.
In a meeting they held in Amuzukwu on Sunday, October 16, 2022, and attended by prominent sons and daughters of the community which saw in attendance, the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Eze John Ibezim, Eze-in-Council, Traditional Prime Minister of Ibeku Ancient Kingdom, Chief Uche Akwukwaegbu, Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Barr Suleiman Ukandu and many other prominent sons and daughters of community, the people of Amuzukwu in unison said Akobundu is the only candidate "we will vote for during Senatorial election of 2023".
They listed his numerous contributions to the development of not only his clan Oloko, Ikwuano, but Ikwuano/Umuahia as a whole.
They recalled that Akobundu as a young officer in the Nigerian Army singularly brought electricity to Oloko Community, pointing out that he equally facilitated the appointments of many Ibeku sons and daughters to positions of authority in both Abia and the Federal Governments.
Speaker after speaker eulogized this down-to-earth son of Ikwuano/ Umuahia and observed that with his wide contacts and reach, in national affairs, Akobundu will attract huge dividends of democracy to the people of Abia Central without discrimination.
According to a testimony by HRH Eze Ibezim, "Akobundu is a bundle of light because he brought electricity to his people in the '80s".
"I was one of the high-ranking NEPA officials then worked with him to ensure the success of that project. You are our worthy son and when we, the Amuzukwu people speak with one voice, we will show that at the polls", Eze Ibezim revealed.
Similarly, Akwukwaegbu explained that Col. Akobundu (rtd) has been a good man from childhood and to his days as a military officer and assured him that Amuzukwu will always stand by him even after the elections.
A former commissioner for Lands and Urban Development who also spoke at the meeting where Akobundu was endorsed, said the PDP Candidate has been a standing friend of Nde Amuzukwu, having had a lasting friendship with their monarch for over 30 years.
He assured him of total victory in Ward 2 and Ward 3 in Umuahia North LGA.
Present at the colorful ceremony were members of Col Akobundu Youth Support Network (CAYSUN), Umuahia North chapter, and other critical stakeholders in the community including the women and youth groups.
Earlier in his introductory speech, the Director-General of the Austin Akobundu Campaign Council, Pastor Emeka Inyama asserted that the PDP Candidate is a man who has traversed the length and breadth of this nation, saying that by this, he is armed with sufficient experience and contacts to pilot the affairs of Abia Central.
He added that no other candidate possesses the wherewithal to attract the much-needed dividends of democracy to the zone.
In his response, Col. Akobundu, with joy narrated his relationship with HRM Eze Ibezim, which according to him dates back to 1984 when he was still active in the military.
He went down memory lane to explain how the royal father used his position as a top staff of the then NEPA to assist him in connecting electricity to his community, adding that the relationship has been sustained over the years and will continue beyond the electioneering period.
The former Minister of Defence State assured the people that when elected as Senator, he will not disappoint them.
Indeed, today's endorsement has further added to his numerous approvals across the six Local Government Areas that make up the Abia Central Senatorial zone which has continued to assure him of their total support and victory in the 2023 polls.
