Col Austin Akobundu (rtd), the flag bearer of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for Abia Central Senatorial District, has described the late retired Assistant Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, late Dr. Sam Udo Onyemachi (rtd) of Oloko, as a man of strong character who loved and served humanity with the best of his abilities.

Speaking at the funeral service in honour of the late retired AGC Onyemachi in his country home, Umuozuogwo Oloko, Ikwuano LGA of Abia State, Col. Akobundu noted that the deceased served the country meritoriously and rose to an enviable height in public service before retiring from active service.

The immediate past National Organizing Secretary of the PDP disclosed that the deceased, as a true friend whom he grew up with and attended the same secondary school with at the Government College, Umuahia, was caring and humble during his lifetime.

In his words, "He was a very good friend of mine although he was quite older than I. We grew up together, with a relationship that cuts across class".

The ever-caring retired Army officer, therefore, asked the deceased family to take solace in God as He is the author and finisher of our faith.

In a funeral oration, the eldest son of the deceased, Chigozie Onyemachi, said their late father was a devout Christian who lived an exemplary and impactful life.

In a sermon entitled: "After Your Departure on Earth What Next", Pastor Aniedi Rufus of the Living Faith Church (Winners' Chapel), 46 Udo Street off Wellington Bassey Way Uyo, explained that the world is not a permanent place, but a platform for man to fulfill his destiny, stressing that man must one day give an account of his stewardship to his creator after his earthly journey.
